Our Florida & Bahamas Cruise 2016Continuing on from the last blog post where we stayed in New York in March 2016, this week’s post covers the first 4 days of the cruise we subsequently took from there. It was an 8 day Florida and Bahamas cruise with Royal Caribbean on Anthem of the Seas and this covers the first part of the trip from New York to Port Canaveral in Florida. It includes a memorable visit to the Kennedy Space Centre and describes what we saw. Enjoy!

In March 2016, we went to New York to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day there and then sailed from nearby Cape Liberty aboard the Anthem of the Seas on a Bahamas cruise. In NYC, we stayed down near the “new” One World Trade Center near where the Twin Towers once stood. I was reminded of that trip last month on the 21st Anniversary of 9/11. It’s hard to believe it’s actually 21 years since that world-changing day that is burnt forever into our memories.
I was working in the Exchange that day and several of the firms in the Twin Towers were firms we dealt with on a daily basis. Loss and devastation are suffered universally regardless of colour, race, geography or creed …. but working in financial services made 9/11 very real for me and my colleagues as we could relate to all of those ordinary workers who left their homes for their office jobs that Tuesday morning for the last time. Not forgetting also those killed on the planes and the police and fire fighters on the ground. RIP. But this week’s blog is about the first leg of that trip - our stay in New York before the cruise, the rebirth that has taken place since 9/11 in the southern tip of Manhattan and what we saw at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade NYC 2016. Enjoy! Westport - Feb2013I was recently doing some family tree research where the ancestors came from Westport in Co. Mayo and I was reminded of a special weekend I spent there in 2013. So this week’s blog is about that gorgeous town, the drive we took alongside the Greenway out to Achill Island and some of the stunning scenery. Enjoy!
Western Med. Cruise on Symphony of the Seas - 5 - 12 July 2018I should preface this blog by saying that as I did this cruise within 7 months of coming home from hospital after a massive stroke, I was still in recovery mode, so I really took things very easy on-board and had decided I would only go ashore every second day. I still had mobility and stamina issues at that stage. In addition, I had previously done a couple of Med cruises before this one so had been to all of the ports on the itinerary a number of times before. This therefore probably doesn’t give the full flavour of all of the things to be seen or to be done either on this ship or at these locations. It’s just a true reflection of the relaxing and re-energising holiday that I myself had. Enjoy!
