Now, the above is not an invitation….but the words of one of the most famous songs from the place I went to celebrate my birthday recently – Carlow. Actually, Tullow’s fabulous Mount Wolseley Hotel and Spa to be exact. Many moons ago I visited Tullow by accident….as driving home for the first time on a dark winter’s night from Dublin I took a wrong turn in Castledermot at the mad bend beside the pub! This time however it was by design! And how enjoyable it was! Within 200 acres of beautiful countryside, this luxurious hotel and spa boasts an 18-hole championship golf course and a 20-metre swimming pool. We were greeted at reception by the friendly Sandra who very kindly upgraded us to the gorgeous York Suite….where I was greeted with a personal message and delicious cake on a plate! We lost no time exploring the elegant suite with separate loo, walk-in wardrobe, coffee station, seating area, king-size bed, lovely decor and a private bathroom with double sinks, separate bath and shower and complimentary toiletries. We had free internet access, free tea and coffee, and a TV in the room. Above: Photos by CharlieAbove: Photos by meAlthough included, we didn’t sample the award-winning leisure centre which offers a state-of-the-art gym featuring machines with integrated TVs. We learnt though that if we wanted, we could relax in the hot tub, sauna, or steam room. The Wolseley Spa also offers a range of exotic and luxurious treatments. Suitably chilled out we went for a pre-dinner drink to the Aaron Lounge which was quiet and relaxing with quick service. Afterwards we walked into the hotel’s Frederick's Restaurant where I can honestly say I had one of the best meals ever. Service staff were young but excellent and even sang “Happy Birthday” to me with desert! I can see why it has won awards! The following morning, I was disappointed to learn there was only buffet-style breakfast which I am not a fan of with my limited mobility. Having to walk down and up steps to the food area wasn’t great as I don’t have great balance. Nevertheless, the breakfast food itself, particularly the sausage, was very good. After a quick check-out, we took some photos of the Wolseley cars parked in the reception area … and then we made our way back to Dublin, down the picturesque driveway, having thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. Can’t wait to go again! And I hope you all "Follow Me Up To Carlow"!! And here's the song......Bucket List Items Ticked Off in the above Blog 115 Number 59 - Travel - Hotels
